Hi All!👋
Excited to help shape the sound of Quip. Below are some initial ideas on how music and sound design can bring the piece to life and help drive the narrative.
GENERAL THOUGHTS
We’re aiming to capture two key feelings:
1. Luxury and openness that still feel accessible.
2. A celebratory sense of the “want-to ritual”
A sonic arc that moves from an atmospheric build → feel-good anthem can express both feelings.
Let’s break down that arc below.
ATMOSPHERIC BUILD (:00 - :08)
We’re immediately placed in a luxurious, open space with a close-up of the quip toothbrush. The sound responds to its sleek form and the sense of vast, open space.
To achieve this, we’ll create expansive soundscapes that feel luxuriously open yet accessible. The aim is to establish a sonic atmosphere that builds anticipation for the “want-to” ritual.
We’ll be mindful not to drift too far into zen. Each cut will carry momentum that drives into the next. A reference point from previous work for Starbucks is below.
FEEL-GOOD ANTHEM (:08 - end)
:08 and :17 act as key inflection points, where the atmospheric textures lock into a steady footing, and resolves into a groove-driven, feel-good anthem. The music celebrates an everyday ritual. The energy intentionally avoids stadium-scale, instead feeling warm, inviting, and achievable.
The music balances a sense of celebration with ease, similar to a previous piece I created for Microsoft.
Modern 2020s pop serves as strong inspiration for this feel-good anthem — where premium production meets raw authenticity, anchored by catchy melodies. Any vocals, if used, will be purely textural, with no lyrics.
The key lies in reimagining retro nostalgia into something unmistakably new, much like these tracks do. This approach mirrors how a mundane ritual, like brushing your teeth, can be elevated into something extraordinary.
SOUND DESIGN
The piece is full of satisfying, tactile moments. Sound design will highlight these without disrupting the natural musical flow.
Below are some examples of how tactility can be woven into the musical fabric, drawn from previous work.
And that's it! Excited to create with you all, and happy to hear any input or ideas you might have.
Thank you! 🙏 -Yuta
